MANILA, Philippines—Reelectionist Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) at the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, pledging to finish the job he started in the current Congress.

He said he would refile some 500 bills he authored—mostly on education, health and agriculture concerns—and see to their passage if he wins a new term.

Revilla filed his candidacy under the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD but said he was also a guest candidate of four other parties, namely, Partido ng Masang Pilipino, Nacionalista Party, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino and Nationalist People’s Coalition.

“They (the four parties) saw what we have done in the Senate. We thank them and it’s a big honor for us to be adopted as their guest candidate,” said Revilla, who trooped to the Comelec with his wife Lani Mercado, their children and supporters led by actor Philip Salvador.

Other officials for senator

Other government officials and personalities who filed CoCs for senator were Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III and ex-Sen. Francisco Tatad. Bello is with Lakas-Kampi while Tatad is running as an independent.

In the Nacionalista Party, former Cavite City Rep. Gilbert Remulla was expected last night to file his certificate of candidacy for senator.

Remulla, who serves as NP spokesperson, said he had been thinking for sometime about whether to run for senator and decided at the last minute to do so.

The list so far of the major parties’ senatorial bets are:

For the Liberal Party—Neric Acosta, Franklin Drilon, Rep. Teofisto Guingona III, Rep. Ruffy Biazon, Rep. Risa Hontiveros, former Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, Sonia Roco.

For Lakas-Kampi-CMD—Bello, Revilla, Rey Langit, Ramon Juico, Sen. Lito Lapid.

For the United Opposition—Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago (guest), Revilla (guest), Agusan del Sur Rep. Ompong Plaza, Negros Occidental Rep. Apolinario “Jun” Lozada, Sanlakas Rep. JV Bautista, Jose “Joey” de Venecia III.

For the Nacionalista Party—Sen. Pia Cayetano, Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Adel Tamano, Susan Ople, Gwendolyn Pimentel, Ramon Mitra, Liza Maza (guest candidate), Col. Ariel Querubin.

Maza in NP slate

Maza’s inclusion in the NP slate was announced by vice presidential candidate Sen. Loren Legarda on Monday.

For Bangon Pilipinas—Kata Inocencio, Alex Tinsay, Ramoncito Ocampo, Dr. Zaruffla Alonto and Dr. Israel Virgines.

For Ang Kapatiran—Rizalito David, Jo Aurea Imbong, Zosimo Paredes, Adrian Sison, Reginald Tamayo, Hector Tarrazona, Manuel Valdehuesa Jr.

Ateneo de Manila University professor Danton Remoto, a gay rights advocate who has been pushing for approval of the Ang Ladlad party-list group, said he would be seeking a Senate seat as an independent but was in talks with one of the parties to be a guest candidate.

“Negotiations are still ongoing,” he said up to the last hours before the filing deadline.
